CHAPTER 15

Money, money, money, it was what life was all about—living big dreams and doing big things. Money, money, money, it was the cure to most of everyone’s problems. Money, money, money, it could turn anyone’s hell into paradise. Money, money, money, they say it’s the root to all evil, but having it is almost the sweetest thing, like some good dick. Money, money, money, finally Luca had a slice of heaven—and it was the reason she was meeting with Squirrel in his Harlem place. Money—it was the reason she was risking her freedom and her life for another five kilos to cut up and distribute to her high-end clientele, from Canarsie to Wall Street. Tiffany kept reeling in the big fishes. She had a knack for marketing. So much clientele was coming Luca’s way that Luca was drowning in business.

Money, money, money, it was the thing, the source that made the world go round and round—like Wu-Tang sang, “C.R.E.A.M.”—cash rules everything around me.

Luca didn’t mind traveling to Harlem to get her work. She substituted the train ride with a costly cab ride, paying the cabbie an extra hundred dollars more for the trip from Brooklyn to Harlem and back again.

Luca gawked at Squirrel, who was shirtless, his upper torso cut with a six-pack and a strapping chest covered with tattoos. A ten-karat, solid white-gold men’s diamond tennis chain hung from around his neck. It was big and looked costly. He sported a colored diamond pinky ring. He took a pull from his cigarette, standing by the table, and seemed relaxed. Five kilos of heroin was placed on the coffee table in the living room.

“You like what you see?” Squirrel asked.

“I definitely do,” Luca replied with a lecherous grin, but she wasn’t talking about the kilos.

Squirrel smiled slightly. He was starting to have much respect for her. It was her fourth trip to him in over a month. But not only was she creating good business for him—earlier, Luca had done him the favor of using an RF signal detector to do a sweep of his place to make sure he wasn’t being spied on with bugs, either from the city or state police, or the feds. The results were positive. Squirrel’s place was bug-free. He was very appreciative. Squirrel had developed some paranoia that he was constantly being watched by someone—enemies or authorities. Luca, with her specialty in technology, inadvertently became something like his guardian angel.

“You know, you surprised me, Luca. I thought I might have to kill you, but ya savvy and adept. You’re useful in more ways than you know. I like that, especially in a woman,” Squirrel complimented. “My opinion—you’re a better replacement than Nate.”

Luca stayed cool. “Thank you. I try to run my business like a brand.”

“You and me both. I respect that,” Squirrel replied.

It was obvious that there was a mutual attraction between the two of them. Luca had wanted Squirrel since the first day she laid eyes on him. It had been a while since she’d had any dick.
